JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

Preserving Joshua Tree National Park.
Less than two hundred miles east of Los Angeles, on some days, especially during summer, Joshua Tree National Park experiences the dirtiest air (in terms of visibility impairment and ozone concentrations) within any national park. Another threat to the park is the proposed development of 10 golf courses near Cottonwood on the southern end of Joshua Tree. Also after many years of battle in 2005 Judge Timlin ruled against Kaiser Mountain, Inc. and the BLM in a suit files by the National Park Conservation Association stopping a proposed landfill to be used for the garbage from seven nearby southern California counties. If developed, 20,000 tons of garbage a day would be brought here over the next 115 years. Seth Shteir, a senior program coordinator at the National Park Conservation Association in Joshua Tree, compared building a dump at Eagle Mountain to "putting a sewage treatment plant next to the Sistine Chapel."

Abstract Photo-Painting
In addition to landscapes, travel and nature, Bart explores aspects of his own abstract paintings done on canvas for nuances of inspiration to create what he calls abstract 'photo-painting'. It allows Bart to explore and create an ever more imaginative landscape of color, shape, form, depth, texture and emotion.

Although all are shown here in the square format this series can also be custom formatted vertically or horizontally and sized as 24" x 36" or up to 36" x 36" prints mounted on 42" custom wood frames encased in polyurethane epoxy. Another option is mounting on brushed metals under clear acrylics for a very dramatic presentation.

These unique and unusual framing styles achieve a bold new aesthetic and stunning presentation for Bart's images. See examples.

Larger, custom pieces available upon request. A variety of colors and wood types are available for the finishes on our wood frames.

THE SALTON SEA

California's Salton Sea. As lovely as it can appear when captured in the right light and from the best angle, the Salton Sea is slowly shrinking and dying. The Salton Sea currently has a salinity exceeding 4.0% (saltier than seawater) and many species of fish are no longer able to survive in the Salton. It is believed that once the salinity surpasses 4.4%, only the tilapia will survive. Fertilizer runoff from nearby agricultural lands combined with the increasing salinity have resulted in large algae blooms and elevated bacteria levels. All these factors jeopardize future life of the species in it. As a major stop and nesting area of the Pacific flyway midway between Alaska and Patagonia, maintaining water levels and stopping the ecological catastrophe are a necessity for the over 450 species of birds that stop here each winter from all over North America. If one of the many proposed rescue plans isn't put into effect soon, how long it will remain the "crown jewel of avian biodiversity" is very much in jeopardy. As photographers our images can serve not only as a motivation and a warning but tragically also as a memorial preservation of what had been.

Zen is a school of Mahāyāna Buddhism, translated from the Chinese word 禅 Chán to Japanese. This word is in turn derived from the Sanskrit dhyāna, which means "meditation".
Through Zen there developed a way which concentrated on direct experience rather than on rational creeds or revealed scriptures. Wisdom was passed, not through words, but through a lineage of one-to-one direct transmission of thought from teacher to student.
